Arthur Thomas Beeching was born at The Elms in Tonbridge on 25th July 1836 to Horatio and Susanna Beeching. He was the third generation of Beechings which ran the Banking business originally created by his grandfather Thomas and expanded by his father Horatio. Arthur was also a benefactor to Tonbridge, J.P. for Kent, treasurer of the governing bodies for 32 years and president of numerous clubs and societies. When the Beeching banking business ran into difficulties in the late 1880s through a number of unsuccessful speculations, Arthur arranged an amalgamation of his bank with Lloyds Bank Ltd which occured in 1890. Arthur Thomas Beeching died in February 1912. |
