"An aged and worthy couple who dwelt many years of their life at a cottage at the Lych Gate and there died. Ann Slater was born on September 2nd 1755[?] was married on June 18th 1785 and became the mother of three sons and four daughters. She died on the 8th July 1846. Fortunatus Slater was born January 1st 1762. He lived happily with his wife for the long period of 61 years and survived her by 2 years and 8 months. He died on 8th March 1849 aged 87 years - F. Slater had sustained himself with much credit to himself for integrity and punctuality the office of Parish Clerk for nearly 61 years."
