	Extract from MacDermott's Buxted the Beautiful Edward Egles, an enterprising manufacturer, founded a cotton manufactory in Lewes and another at Hempstead Mill, Buxted, where the business of cotton-wick spinning was carried on for many years. He died in 1838, aged 77, possessed of much landed property.
