| 1741 | History | | | The Catts Inn | Our Village |
| The Catt's Inn (known until 1740 as the Catt House) - This house, the largest on the east side of the Square, together with Catt's Farm and Catt's Corner at Town Row, derive their name from a family which now have no representatives of that name in Rotherfield, but which appears in the Manorial Rolls as far back as 1296. It has been variously spelt as le Kat, Cach, Cat and Catte. First as the Catt House and then as the Catt Inn the house is frequently mentioned in the rate books from 1741 onwards, but neither then nor now has it been in the possession of the Catt family. from Our Village, written and published by The Rotherfield History Research Group in 1979 |
