Ashdown Forest dispute

During The Ashdown Forest Dispute 1876-1882 commoners and land owners were interviewed by the solicitor William Raper. Their comments were recorded in a series of notebooks:

Hills, Albert Henry. Highhurst, Buxted. Gent. Owner of four properties in Buxted viz. Perryman's Grove, The Nest, Morphews and Parkhurst. I claim rights only in respect of Perryman's Grove. The others are held of the Manor of Framfield. Perryman's Grove comprises about 41 acres. I purchased it from my uncle Borer in 1861 or 1862. He purchased it off Richard Cloke some 6 or 7 years before and I became acquainted with the property soon after. I was living at the time at Parkhurst in the same parish. When my uncle purchased Perryman's Grove there was a ruinous old house upon it which he pulled down immediately and he built a new cottage in place of it. I superintended the building of it. After I purchased it I used it until 9 or 10 years ago and then I went away to the Brazils for 7 or 8 years and let it to a Mr. Henry Whitewood [who] continues to occupy it.
