Part I

In the name of god amen. The fourth day of october in the year of our lorde god … the fourth and fifth year of the reign of Philipp and Mary by the grace of god king and queen of England, Spain and France. I Thomas Gromebredg of the parish of Spelhurst within the County of Kent and in the diocese of Rochester, yeoman, being in good and perfect remembrance do make this my last will and testament in manner and form following. That is to say I bequeath my Soule unto Almighty god my maker and Redeemer and to all the Celestial Company of Saints And my body to be buried within the Churchyard of Spelhurst afforesaid. Item I give and bequeath to Alice my wife and John Gromebredg my Son all my movable goods therewith to pay my debts. The said Alice my wife and John my Son I make and ordain my Executors of this my last will and testament. Also I make and ordain Richard Jefferies and John Collin my Supervisors and overseers to see this my last will and Testament well and truly performed and kept. And they to have for their pains taking in that behelst no aspect and their reasonable costs and expenses. witness Richard Jefferies, John Collin, John Gromebredg Robert Gromebredg and Richard Curdd.

Part II

THIS IS the last will of me the afforesaid Thomas Gromebredg as … the disposition of all my lands and tenement lying within the parish of Spelhurst made and declared the day and year abovesaid. Item I will that Alice my wife shall have the occupying with John Gromebredg my Son of half my landes and Tenement and John my Son the other half during her widowhood and no longer. And if it fortune Alice my wife to marry Then I will that she Imediately shall leave up her occupying without further delay. And then she to have out of my hole landes 20 shillings yearly during her natural life and no more. Item I will and give John Gromebredg my Son afforesaid all my hole landes and Tenements to him and to his heirs forever upon condition that he pay his executors or assigned pay or cause to be payed unto my 5 sons Six Pounds Thirteen Shillings Four pense apiece. And to my four daughters 15 shillings apiece in manner and form following. That is to pay at the feast of Saint Michael the Archangel … Twelvemonth next after the decease of Margaret Groombridge my mother to pay unto Andrew Gromebredg my Son 33 shillings 4 pence yearly at the feast of Saint Michael until the hole and full Summ of 6 pounds 13s 4d be fully satisfied contented and payed. And at the feast of Saint Michael next after Andrew my Son is full payed to pay unto Thomas Gromebredg my Son 33 shillings 3 pence yearly at the feast of Saint Michael as afforesaid until the full and hole sum of 6 pounds 13s 4d be fully contented and payed. And … (here follows the same formula for the other brothers, William Gromebredg, Robert Gromebredg and Richard Gromebredg) Also if it fortune any of my afforesaid Sons to die before he be fully payed And then I will the payment to start (?) And the money to him bequeathed to die likewise. Also I will and bequeath unto my four daughters Johan, Ellen, Alice and Margaret to each of them 15 shillings apiece to be payed to them or either of them at the day of their marriage. And if it fortune any of my afforesaid daughters to die before she be married, Then my will is that her 40 shillings (XL) be equally divided amongst her sisters then living.

Witnesses at this will making Richard Jefferies, John Collin, John Gromebredg, Robert Gromebredg, Richard Curdd and no other.
