James Burges Will:
"My mind is that my loving wife Jane shall have for her own use the house, garden and all appurtenances called Ketches otherwise Dirkins in Rotherfield to dwell in during her natural life without paying anything therefor. And the use of the Yellow Bed with all thereto belonging in the Parlor chamber and all household goods and linen she may chose. And after her death to my executor. Also ten pounds to be paid within twelve months of my decease to her. Also a note of hand from John Alchorne for payment of fifty pounds and one from John Bridger for thirty pounds.
To my daughter Sarah, wife of John Alchorne all my messuage, barn, farm and lands called Highbroom in occupation of James Salter, four pieces of land adjoining High Broom also in occupation of James Salter which I purchased of William Butcher for her natural life, and after her death to the lawful issue of my said daughter and my mind is that the eldest child be it son or daughter shall enjoy the same for ever. And if there be no such issue then to my son John Burges for ever
Fifty pounds to my said daughter Sarah within twelve months after my decease
To my grandson James Bridger, son of my daughter Mary, wife of John Bridger, that messuage, barn and lands called Moses otherwise Bassetts containing by estimation twenty six acres in Rotherfield now in occupation of William Page, except the field called Adams for ever. And if he die then to my granddaughter Mary Bridger her heirs and assigns for ever
To my daughter Mary Bridger three hundred pounds etc
To my daughter Hannah wife of John Fry the same
To my daughter Jael five hundred pounds at the day of her marriage. And my executor to pay to said daughter Jael at 4% from a year after my decease
To my son John Burges all my messuages lands tenements glebe lands and hereditatments whatsoever [Brookhouse] and wheresoever for ever and I appoint him my executor."

In 1678 Richard Mose's Will leaves Bassetts otherwise Beadles to Anne Mose and Patience Mose who sell to William Coe of Rotherfield in December 1699. Charity Coe inherits the premises from her husband and remarries a James Lintoff. In June 1734 James and Charity Lintoff sell Bassetts otherwise Beadles but excluding the field called Adams to James Burges.

"To my said son James Burges my messuage or tenement called Ketches or Dirkinns and lands belonging thereto containing forty-eight acres in Rotherfield purchased of John Groombridge, Jane his wife, George Hooper and others. Also to son James Burges my messuage or tenements called Pick Pale in Rotherfield containing twenty acres in my occupation and a piece of land called Sketts containing six acres in Rotherfield and twenty pounds of household stuff ...
