He was born 1846 at North Chapel, Sussex; christened 28^th Jun 1846 at St Michael's Church, North Chapel, Sussex, parents Charles & Dorothy Challen; died 29^th Dec 1882 at Reigate, Surrey. They had the following children:

	He married Jane Elphick on 5^th Oct 1901 at St. Nicholas Church, Godstone, Surrey, witnesses Ruth Sergeant (mother) & Alice Elizabeth Elphick. She was born 1876 at Bromley, Kent; christened 14^th May 1876 at Ss Peter & Paul Church, Bromley, Kent
