Speldhurst Old Inn in 1900
We climb the hill to reach the village of Speldhurst, and find its church with the old lych gate and tower furnished with four bells, and the ancient hostelry, just opposite, where the oaken beams, and other marks of a previous century, testify to its age and historical interest … Speldhurst is rich in old farms and cottages, several of which still show treasured memories of bygone days.
