He was born 1834 at Maresfield, Sussex; christened 22nd Jun 1834 at St Bartholomew Parish Church, Maresfield, Sussex, son of Richard Tester (labourer) and Elizabeth Tester
  He married Mary Ann Best on Apr to June 1858, registered at Uckfield District, Sussex, ref: 1858 Q2 Vol 2b Page 137. She was born 1836 at Maresfield, Sussex. They had the following children:
  iEllen who was born 1859 at Frant, Sussex; christened 16th Aug 1859 St. Alban's Church, Frant, Sussex, daughter of John Tester (labourer) and Mary Anne Tester; died before 20th Aug 1859 Frant, Sussex, aged 18 days; buried 20th Aug 1859 Frant, Sussex
