The Buxted almshouses, containing four tenements, two for single people and two for married couples, were built and endowed with £2,000 by the late Lady Catherine J. V. Harcourt A.D. 1864. Smith's Charity of £1 6s. 8d. paid out of a bequest to the parish of All Saints, Lewes and a charity of £6 15s. yearly, left by Mr. Edward Holmes Baldock, of Hyde Park place, London, in 1844, are distributed in money. Benham's charity of £9 a year, founded by will in 1865, is given to the poor at the absolute discretion of the trustees. | |||||
