During The Ashdown Forest Dispute 1876-1882 commoners and land owners were interviewed by the solicitor William Raper. Their comments were recorded in a series of notebooks:

Hoath, William. Living at Old Moor (3 acres), Withyham, some part held of Duddleswell. Came to live here as a child in 1815. Father bought the place. I have lived here till the present, except from the age of 18 to 37 when I lived in the adjoining parish of Rotherfield. My Father lived here during that time and I was often here. We have had litter and turf from Ashdown Forest regularly since 1815 to the present time to my own knowledge. I have occasionally cut myself but we have generally employed someone else to cut. We have also turned out something every year, sometimes a cow or 2 or 3 sometimes young things. My brother turned out sheep while he lived here.

Stone, Hall and Simpson of Tunbridge Wells represent the owner. The name is Old Moor.
