Harvest Moon [a.k.a. Great Heart / Bloomfield Villa / Railway Inn] Yew Tree Lane Town Row Rotherfield |
The Harvest Moon's history can be traced back to the 1839 Tithe map where it is recorded as a House and Garden owned by George Bennett and occupied by George Histed and Henry Callow. On the 1841 census George Histed is a blacksmith and Henry Callow is a farm labourer and the property is listed as Great Heart. Thirty years later in the 1871 (and 1881) census the property is split into Bloomfield villa and the Great Heart Beer House. After the opening of the Rotherfield railway station in 1880 the property was rebuilt to become the Railway Inn and is listed in the 1891 and subsequent census. When the railway line was closed on 14 June 1965 the Inn was renamed the Harvest Moon. Today, the Harvest Moon is a residential property. |
