Gate House was held with Bucklinghill Farm - 173 acres. The house was built about 1560 and was occupied by a yeoman family named Wood.

1582HistoryBucklandhill [a.k.a. Buckling Hill] FarmWace's Wadhurst
Buckling Hill Farm (now Buckland Hill) early in the 16th Century belonged to the family of Leveshotte or "Lessade". Nicholas of that name sold it to T. Bucher and Upton jointly. The latter, surviving Bucher, claimed the whole. Litigation in Chancery followed, ending in the Buchers selling their half, in 1582, to Wyborne of Bayhall. He mortgaged it in 1592 and later sold it with 60 acres. Five years later it is mentioned as in possession of W. Courthope, guardian of a Barham minor of Snape.
