The Mount. Fifty years ago [c 1870] a house was built by a Railway Director, Gordon Thomson by name, on some land of the old Faircrouch property. On his death it was all sold by his Executors to a Religious Society, founded in 1828 at Domodossola in Northern Italy by Antonio Rosmini-Serbati. In 1879-80 they erected the Chapel and buildings now on it, thus described by Father Whelan who went there in 1885: " To us it is Mount Calvary Wadhurst in memory and as a counterpart of our Novitiate at Monte Calvario, Domodossola." | |||||
