Shortbridge, which is the north-western extremity of the parish. Previous to the construction of railways, Shortbridge was of some importance in the neighbourhood, having a wharf, on which barges laden with coal, lime. &c., from Lewes or Newhaven, discharged their cargoes. A steam and water mill is also worked here. In the summer this locality is much frequented by lovers of the gentle craft, numbers of whom come over from Brighton and elsewhere, fishing up the river from Barcombe or Isfield.
