Will of Robert Grombredge of Tunbridge

In dei nomine amen. The 18th day of March in the year of our lorde god 1543 I Robert Grombredge of the parish of Tunbridge and County of Kent being sick of body but of good and perfect remembrance thanked be god Almighty do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I bequeath my soul to god Almighty and my body to be buried in the churchyard of Spelhurst

Item. I will there shall be bestowed at my burying 10s

Item I will and bequeath to my son Lawrence Grobredge and his heirs forever all that my tenement and land in the parish of Spelhurst paying to his brother John 10 pound at two payments that is to say 5 pounds twelve months after my decease and other 5 pounds that day two years after my decease the payment for to be payed upon the tombstone in the Churchyard of Spelhurst. Also I will and bequeath to Lawrence my son my 6 oxen, my … all the harvest belonging to my tenement or in anywise to my tenement appertaining and three steer young in the holthe (?)

Item I will to my daughter Margaret three kine or 5 pounds of money at my daughter's choice which she will have. And also I will to my said daughter Margaret a great Cauldron half a dozen of pewter two candlesticks

Item I will to Clement Latter a pied cow

Item I will to Johan Latter a twelmonting heifer bullock

Item I will to John Fedderstone a twelmonting bullock

Item I will to William Relfe wife a twelmonting heifer bullock

Item I will to Johan my wife her Chamber and all that thereto belongeth and after her decease the fedderbed to Johan her daughter and if Johan die before her mother then the fedderbed to remain to Clement Latter.

All the rest of my movable good unbequeathed and my … I give and bequeath to Lawrence my son and Johan my wife for to … together during my wife life. Also I ordain Lawrence my son and Johan my wife to be my executors and Thomas Latter and Thomas Bowrne mine overseers further my will as that whereas I do owe to William Goldsmith 4 pounds 13s 4d that which my executors shall … and … my wedding rings … for to pay the foresaid 4 pounds 13s 4d between them.

Item I give to John my son an acre of oats, an acre of wheate and a baron (?) hogge

In witness whereof I the foresaid Robert Grombredge have signed this my last will with myn own hand in the presence of John Sture, John Simon, Thomas Latter, Thomas Bowrne and Richard … the writer of this will
