8.10.1879

Samuel Slater. 87. Very deaf - memory almost gone. Tompsetts Bank. Born in Hartfield. His Father was parish clerk. (When) about 27 worked for 2 years for Godly at Upper Parrock. Had litter from the Forest and turned out. Before that worked at Chartners Farm. Does not remember before that. Lived before he was grown up with Philcox at Little Parrock for a year. He had litter and turned out. He had turf. Used to go out with the team to get it. Worked 3 years as a boy for Everest at Lower Parrock. He cut litter and turned out. Witness used to go with the horse team to fetch the litter home and helped to drive the stock out. Used also to fetch turf from Hollies Farm.
