Albert Henry Hills |
Hills, Albert Henry. Highhurst, Buxted. Gent. Owner of four properties in Buxted viz. Perryman's Grove, The Nest, Morphews and Parkhurst. I claim rights only in respect of Perryman's Grove. The others are held of the Manor of Framfield. Perryman's Grove comprises about 41 acres. I purchased it from my uncle Borer in 1861 or 1862. He purchased it off Richard Cloke some 6 or 7 years before and I became acquainted with the property soon after. I was living at the time at Parkhurst in the same parish. When my uncle purchased Perryman's Grove there was a ruinous old house upon it which he pulled down immediately and he built a new cottage in place of it. I superintended the building of it. After I purchased it I used it until 9 or 10 years ago and then I went away to the Brazils for 7 or 8 years and let it to a Mr. Henry Whitewood [who] continues to occupy it. My uncle and I were always very particular to turn out on the Forest every year. We turned out about 8 or 10 head of cattle, occasionally horses, but no sheep or goats or pigs. My uncle and I successively had litter from the Forest every year of our occupation. I have several times had heath from the Forest for thatch[ing] pigstyes on Perryman's Grove. We both had turf at times from the Forest for fuel and gravel for bottoming the yards. No peat nor wood. Neither my uncle nor I were ever interrupted, nor did we ever make any payments. |
