Fenner, James. 75. Blacksmith, born at Nutley 17 June 1804 and believes he was baptised at Maresfield and has lived at Nutley all his life and has never been away from it for a month at any one time. My Father, James Fenner, was a blacksmith at Nutley and was a keeper of the pound at Nutley, and I succeeded him and am still keeper of it. It is the Manor pound for Duddleswell and Lord De La Warr and his predecessors have kept it repaired. My Father occupied and afterwards bought a small property called "Bartletts" (No 31) which now belongs to John Ridley. My Father used to tell me that the property had rights on the Forest.

I am pretty sure I have heard the name of Elizabeth Allcock as a former owner of the property. My Father sold it to old William Osborn (now dead) who used it several years and then let it to Barton for a time. Then old William Osborn used it again and afterwards sold it to Henry Ridley who used it for a time and sold it to John Ridley who now has it. I produce the lease to my Father dated 1798. I was born in the Old House on the property and lived there till about 60 years ago when I came to live here. Ever since I can remember my Father had litter and turf from the Forest and used it on the property. We had turf out of the bounds by Kings Standing when it was broken into.

The Forest used to be driven. Mr. Wheeler of the Nutley Inn, Sir Thomas Wilson's tenants and the Fletching tenants used to come to help drive. Sheep and horses used to be driven and pounded at Nutley. At one time they drove the poor people's cows and the owners came and broke down the pound and let them out.

From a copy Court Roll of Duddleswell Fenner's property is described as: Tenement and 3 acres at Nutley paying 7d. Garden adjoining consisting 1/2 acre paying 1d. Heriot 6d.
