Fenner, Elizabeth. 79. Wife of James Fenner at Nutley. Born Speldhurst. Married William Osborn. In 1822 or 3 we came to live at a house at Nutley adjoining the (Southern) Smith's shop called the Bell with some land about 9 acres behind joining the Bell land. My husband used the land under Sir John Shelley, till his death in 1850. He always had litter and turf every year off the Forest and we turned out 16 bullocks at times. I have heard my first husband say we were entitled to 2 load of wood off the Forest. Richard Crowhurst took it then and still uses it. About 5 years before my first husband's death he also took Alchin's or Alchorn's farm belonging to the Shelleys and carried it on till his death. It joins below Gotlands. We had litter and turf there and turned out.

After my husband's death my brother in law George Horn (dead) took Alchins and used it a few years. Afterwards Lockyear (dead) took it and then Turner, the present tenant. I used to see Lockyear carrying home turf and litter.
