Solomon Avis

Avis, Solomon. 65. Born in Fletching. About 43 years ago I went to work for Mr. George Turner (dead) who farmed the Church Farm at Fletching belonging to Lord Sheffield and worked for him 23 1/2 years. We had litter from the Forest every year while I was with him. I left on his death. Mr. Cutler his successor, is still the tenant. I then went into the service of Mr. Jones the Doctor at Fletching and was with him 5 years at Fletching and then he bought Nutley Court and I came with him and remained with him these 12 years till he sold the place 3 years ago and I continue to reside on it. Mr. Jones had litter every year from the Forest and we had 4 load in the winter of 1878-9. We always turned out cows in the summer from Nutley Court sending a boy with them. We have never been interfered with.

The Weald is at  Database version 14.05 which has ongoing updates to the 395,000 people; 9,000 places; 613 maps; 3,308 pictures, engravings and photographs; and 248 books loaded in the previous version
