In the name of God Amen, I Nicholas Alchorne of Retherfield in the County of Sussex, blacksmith being of sound and perfect mind and memory doe this twentieth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred sixty and three and in the fifteenth year of the raigne of our now soveraigne lord King Charles the Second make, ordeine and declare This my last will and Testament in manner and forme following. Inprimis I give and bequeath my soule to God, my body to be buried in the earth att the discetion of my Executor hereafter named. Item I doe give and bequeath unto my Cosen Abraham Alchorne of Retherfield aforesaid the summe of Five pounds to be paid to him within one yeare next after my decease upon condition and with this provisoe that he my said Cosen Abraham Alchorne shall and doe permitt and suffer my said execut[rix] peaceably and quietly to have hold and enjoy the messuage and tenement wherein I now live with the appurtenances the which I now hold and enjoy by vertue of or under a certaine lease thereof long since to me made by my Father Jasper Alchorne now deceased for the terme of diverse years a great part whereof are yet to come and unexpired for and dureing soe long tyme and soe many yeares as are and is yet to come and unexpired of the aforesaid terme according to the true intent and meaning of the said lease. And if my said Cosen Abraham Alchorne shall or doe refuse to permitt my said Executrix to enjoy and hold the same accordingly or doe molest trouble or sue her or them for or concerning the same Then my will and mind is that the said legacie and summe of Five pounds bequeathed to him as aforesaid shall not be at all to him my said Cosen Abraham Alchorne paid or in any wise become due But shalbe and remayne to my Executrix and to be by her deteined and kept to and for her owne use; And then and in such case my will and mind is and I doe give and bequeath to my Cosen Abraham Alchorne the summe of twelve pence and not more; Item I doe give and bequeath unto my Cosen William Alchorne Brother of my said Cosen Abraham Alchorne the summe of Five pounds to be paid within one year after my decease. Item I give and bequeath unto my Cosen Thomas French sonne of my sister French the summe of Five pounds to be paid within one year next after my decease: And I doe constitute and appoint my loveing Freinds John Turner of Retherfield aforesaid yeoman and John Stapley thelder of Retherfield aforesaid yeoman overseers of this my last will and Testament; And I give to either of them the summe of six shillings and eight pence; All the rest of my goods debts, moneys, Leases, houshouldstuffe, Cattells, Chattells and personal Estate whatsoever I give devise and bequeath unto Annis my now loveing wife; And I constitute, ordeine, appoint and make my said now loveing wife sole Executrix of this my last will and Testament. In witness whereof I the said Nicholas Alchorne to this my last will and Testament have put my hand and seale the day and year First above written, Nicholas Alchorne This present writing was by the within named Nicholas Alchorne published and declared and acknowledged to be his last will and Testament and by him Sealed and delivered in the pr’ce of Thomas Weller, John Lockyer. 1 May 1666 Probate (in Latin) at London to Agnes Alchorne the relict and executrix.
