ELIZABETH COLE

Elizabeth Cole was the illegitimate daughter of Margaret Cole, baptised at Westerham on February 10th 1805. The parish of Brasted paid for her upkeep and schooling. In 1827 she gave birth to a son James who was baptised at Brasted on April 29th. James was buried at Brasted on May 11th 1828, aged 13 months.

In May 1829 it was ordered that Elizabeth be sent to prison as often as she left the workhpuse without permission. Elizabeth remained in the workhouse and died there, being buried at Brasted on February 9th 1840.
