Printer friendly version

James Lambert, musician and artist, was born of humble parentage at Jevington, in the year 1725. He settled at Lewes when young, and practised the pictorial art as a herald painter. For many years he was organist at St. Thomas-at-Cliffe in the eastern suburb of Lewes. He is best known by the water colour drawings which he executed for Sir William Burrell, in illustration of the antiquities of Sussex. There are many hundreds in number now mainly among Sir William's great Collections in the British Museum.
