The Will of Mathias Woodhams 1757
In The Name of God Amen. I Mathias Woodhams of Penshurst in the County of Kent yeoman being in good health of body and of sound and disposing mind and memory praised be God do therefore make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner following, That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God who gave it me and my body I commit to the earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my executor herein after named hoping at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God. And as touching such temporal estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me within this life I give and dispose of the same in the following manner and form.
First I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Anne three pounds a year of good and lawful money of Great Britain yearly and every year during the term of her natural life and to be paid her half yearly by my executor. Also I give and bequeath unto my loving wife Anne those two feather beds that were her own before I married her also two feather pillows and one quilt and coverlet and two blankets and six pairs of sheets and all other the household goods that were my said wife's at the time I married her namely one chest with drawers, four pewter dishes, two brass candlesticks and the rest of the things that were my wife's at the time of our marriage aforesaid. Also I give and bequeath unto my son William Woodhams twenty pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain. Also I give and bequeath unto my son John Woodhams twenty pounds and like lawful money of Great Britain. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Mathias Woodhams twenty pounds of lawful money of England Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Gaynesford twenty pounds of like lawful money of England. Also I give and bequeath unto my son Richard Woodhams twenty pounds of like lawful money of England. Also I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Young twenty pounds of like lawful money of Great Britain. Also I give and bequeath unto my nephew William Woodhams son of my brother William Woodhams deceased ten pounds of good and lawful of Great Britain. All the aforesaid legacy's to become due and payable by my executor within one year next after my decease.
All the residue of my personal estate whatsoever and wheresoever I devise and bequeath unto my son Thomas Woodhams he paying all my just debts, legacy's and funeral expenses and charge of probation of this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I the said Mathias Woodhams the testator have this to my last Will and Testament contained in two sheets of paper fixed together with a label to the first sheet thereof set my hand and to the last sheet thereof set my hand and seal this Ninth day of December in the Twenty Eight year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the grace of God of Great Britain, France and Ireland. King, Defender of the Faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord, One thousand Seven hundred and Fifty Four.
Signed, Sealed, Published and Declared by the said Mathias Woodhams the Testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who subscribed our namers as witnesses in the testators presence and at his request.

This will was proved on the 9th day of July 1757 before the Reverend Hopton Williams Clerk surrogate and so forth by the Oath of Thomas Woodhams the sole executor to whom Admon was granted being duly sworn to administer.
