In the name of God Amen the viith day of March in the yere of our lord God after the computation of the Church of England one Thousand Six hundred & Seven I Richard Coe of Retherfield in the County of Sussex yeoman being in perfect remembrance Thankes be geven to God therefore do make & declare this my last will & testamente in manner & forme followinge First & principally I will & bequeth my soule unto allmighty God my mercifull maker Saviour & Redeemer by whome & through whome I hope to have forgeveness of all my synnes & my body to the earth from whence it came & decently to be buryed when it shall please god Item I will unto the poore of the parishe of Retherfield to be bestowed at my buryall xs Item I will and bequeth unto John Coe my sonne one fetherbed and fether boulster ii pillowes one coverlet two blankets one payer of flaxen sheetes two payer of canvas sheetes one Joyned bedsted iii pewter platters iii pewter dishes & one Cubboard standing in my house at Barnedens & one brasse Candlesticke Item I geve & bequeth unto Margery Quoyfe & to Denis Quoyfe the daughters of William Quoyfe decesed & to every of them ten shillings apeece to be paid unto them & every of them by my executor hereafter named when they & every of them shall come to there severall ages of xxi yeres or be maryed which shall first happen Item I will & bequeth unto Elizabeth Collen my daughter Twenty shillings of lawfull money of England a yere & every yere during her natural life quarterly to be paid after my decease in manner & forme followinge That is to say xs thereof a yere & every yere during her life to be paid by Symon Coe my sonne his heirs executors administrators or assignes & the other xs a yere to be paid yerely during her life by my said sonne John Coe his heirs or assignes out of my messuage & freehold lands called Barnedens And my sonne Symon Coe his heirs executors administrators or assignes to begyn to pay vs the first quarter & my said sonne John Coe his heirs executors or assignes to pay vs the next quarter & so to contynew vs a quarter consequently one yere after an other during her life Item I will & bequeth unto the said Elizabeth Collen my daughter Ten shillings of like lawfull money of England to be paid unto her by my executor within one yere next after my decease Item I will & bequeth unto all & every of the children of the said Elizabeth my daughter & to each of them Ten shillings of like money to be paid unto them & every of them when they & every of them shall come to there severall ages of xxi yeres or be maryed which shall first happen by my executor or assignes hereafter named Item I will & bequeth unto Margery Russell my daughter xs to be paid unto her by my executor within one yere next after my decease Item I will & bequeth unto John Russell sonne of Nicholas Russell xs of like money to be paid unto him by my executor when he shall come to the age of xxi yeres or be maryed which shall first happen Item I geve unto Jesper Allchorne all such summes of money as he doth owe unto me And I geve & bequeth unto Dorothy Allchorne my daughter xs of like money to be paid unto her by my executor within one whole yere next after my decease Item I will & bequeth unto Richard Allchorne the sonne of Jesper Allchorne xxs of like money to be paid unto him by my sonne John Coe his heires or assignes out of my messuage lands & tenements called Barnedens when he shall come to the age of xxi yeres or be maryed which shall first happen Item I geve unto William Allchorne Nicholas Allchorne& Margery Allchorne the children of the said Jesper Allchorne & to every of them xs apeece to be paid unto them & every of them by my said sonne John Coe his heires & assignes out of my messuage lands & tenements called Barnedens when they & every of them shall come to there severall ages of xxi yeres or be maryed which shall first happen All the rest of my moveable goodes not before given & bequethed my debts first paid my legaces discharged & my funerall expenses performed I will & bequeth full & wholely unto Symon Coe my sonne whome I make my whole executor of this my present will & testament And I ordeyne & appoynte Jesper Allchorne & John Hosmer to be my trusty overseers of this my will And I geve to eache of them vis viiid apeece & there charges borne This is also the last will & testament of me the said Richard Coe made the day & yere first above written conserninge the disposition of my lands & tenements as followeth that is to say First I geve & bequeth unto Symon Coe my sonne & to Symon Coe his sonne all those my two messuages tenements barnes buildinges gardens orchards & all the lands & tenements there unto belonging scituate lyinge & beinge in Cranbrooke in the County of Kent To have & t hould to the said Symon Coe my sonne & his assignes for & during his natural life And after the decease of the said Symon my sonne then to the only use & behoofe of the said Symon Coe the younger his heires & assignes for ever Item I will & bequeth unto the said Symon Coe my sonne All those my twoe peces or parcells of Freehould land comonly called by the name of Pettfeilds scituate lyinge and being neere unto the mansion house of George Hilles in Retherfeild aforesaid To have & to hould to the said Symon my sonne & his assignes for & during his naturall life And after the decease of the said Symon my sonne Then I will & bequeth the said Twoe peeces or parcells of freehould land called Pettfeilds with thappurtenances unto the said Symon Coe the younger sonne of the said Symon Coe my sonne & to his heires & assignes for ever Item I will & bequeth unto John Coe my sonne & to his heires & assignes for ever All those my freehould lands & tenements called Barnedens together also with all the houses barnes buildinges there upon bilte & also all the orchards gardens closes easements & comoditites with thappurtenances there unto belonginge scituate lying & being in Retherfield aforesaid To have & to hould to the said John Coe his heirs & assignes for ever Item I will & my trew meaneinge is if eny of the severall giftes & legaces before by me geven & bequethed to be paid out of the said messuage & freehould lands called Barnedens be not paid unto such persons & at such severall tymes as I have willed the same to be paid accordinge to the trew meaninge of this my presente will Then I will & my trew meaninge is That it shall & may be lawfull to & for the said Elizabeth Collen Richard Allchorne William Allchorne Nicholas Allchorne & Margery Allchorne & theire assignes severally & every of them into all & singular the said mesuage lands & tenements with thappurtenances called Barnedens & into ever parte thereof to enter & distryene & the distresse & distresses then & there …. found & taken lawfully from thence to leade drive beare & carry away & it & them to ympound deteyn keepe in his her or there severall custodies untill they & every of them be fully paid there several giftes to them & every of them by me willed to be paid out of the said messuage & lands called Barnedens Together with all losses & expenses by that occacion had & susteyned And for the better confirmacion of this my will I have hereunto sett my hand & seale The marke of Richard Coe These beinge witnesses John Catt Robt Marchant John Hosmer scriptor Lawr Jackson Probatum Coram
