Will of William Saunders
Prerogative Court of Canterbury Wills
 
This is the Last Will and Testament of me William Saunders of the Church Gate Westerham in the County of Kent Gentleman First I nominate and appoint my sons John Saunders and Edward Saunders of No 60 Queen Street Cheapside in the City of London Wholesale Stationers Joint Executors of this my Will and I request them my said Executors decently to inter my body in the family vault in the church yard of Westerham aforesaid
I give and bequest unto my sons William Saunders and Harry Saunders and to the said John Saunders and Edward Saunders the sum of five pounds cash
I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Sophia Saunders the use and possession of all the furniture plate linen china domestic utensils and effects which shall be in and about my dwelling house at the time of my decease for her life and after decease I direct that the same shall be sold and disposed of by my said executors and the proceeds (after deducting all expenses in respect thereto) shall be held and applied upon the trusts and for the purposes hereinafter expressed and declared of and concerning my residuary estate
And as to all my real and All the rest residues and remainder of my personal estates and effect whatsoever and wheresoever I give devise and bequeath the same unto and to the use of my said sons the said John Saunders and Edward Saunders their said executors administrators and assigns according to the respective natures and qualities thereof upon the trusts and for the said interests and purposes following that is to say upon trust that they my said trustees and the survivor of them his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall receive and take the rents issues profits and proceeds of all my said real and residuary personal estate and effects as and when the same shall become due and payable and pay the same into the proper hands of my said wife during the term of her natural life for the support and maintenance of herself and my four daughters Sophia Mary Ellen and Sarah Saunders
and from and immediately after the decease of my said wife upon trust that the my said trustees or the survivor or them his heirs executors administrators or assigns do and shall sell and dispose of either by public auction or by private contract
And I direct that the said John Saunders and Edward Saunders and the survivor of them and the executors and administrators of such survivor do and shall stand and be possessed of the monies to arise be produced in and from such sale or sales as aforesaid and of my ready monies securities for money stock in the government or public funds (if any) and all other monies and property whatsoever belonging or coming to my estate
…they my said trustees or the survivor of them or the executors or administrators or such survivor do and shall lay out and ?? the surplus of the said monies in their or his own monies or name in the parliamentary stocks or funds or on government real or long leasehold securities of and in Great Britain with power to alter vary and change the said stocks funds and securities for or into other stocks funds or securities of the like nature or description as often as it shall become necessary or be thought expedient and do and shall stand possessed of the stocks funds and securities upon which the same shall be so laid out and invested
Upon trust to pay apply and divide the interest dividends and annual produce thereof as and when the same shall become due and be received unto and equally between and amongst my daughters the said Sophia Saunders Mary Saunders Ellen Saunders and Sarah Saunders or such or them as shall be living at the time of the decease of my said wife to and for them and each and every of their sole and separate use and benefit
and from and after the decease of the survivor of them my said daughters upon trust that they my said trustees or the survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such survivor do and shall stand possessed of the said stocks funds and securities and the unapplied dividends interest and annual produce thereof In trust for and for the absolute use and benefit of all every my said sons the said William Saunders John Saunders Harry Saunders and Edward Saunders or such of them as shall be living at the time of the decease of the survivor of them my said daughters and I hereby direct my said trustees or the survivor of them or the executors or administrators of such survivor to pay apply or retain the same accordingly
I the said William Saunders have to this my last Will and Testament in writing contained in four sheets of paper (affixed together with my seal) set my hand at the foot of each of the first three sheets and to this last and fourth sheet thereof at the foot or end hereof this tenth day of December one thousand eight hundred and forty six – W.Saunders (Sd) – signed and declared by the said William Saunders the testator as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who were both present at the same time and who in his presence at his request and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses attesting the same W Ray Westerham Collector – C Palmer Schoolmaster Westerham
Proved at London the 13th June 1849 before the Worshipful Alfred Waddilove Doctor of Laws and Surrogate the oaths of John Saunders and Edward Saunders the sons the Executors to whom admon was granted having been first sworn duly to administer.
