In the name of God Amen
I Edward Latter senior of the parish of ffant in the County of Sussex Miller being weak in body but of sound mind memory and understanding thanks be given to Almighty God for the same do make and ordain through my last Will and Testament in writing in manner and from following viz:
first I bequeath my soul to Almighty God that give it me trusting in the mercy of Jesus Christ my Saviour for remission of my sins and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried by my Exytrix and Executor hereinafter named and as to the wordly goods it hath pleased the Lord to bestow upon me I give devise and bequeath thereof as followeth Imprimo
I give unto William Latter my son twenty shillings to be paid to him within one month after my decease by my Executrix or Executor hrereinfter named
Item I give unto John Latter of Goudhurst my son twenty shillings to be paid to him within one month after my decease by my Executrix or Executor hrereinfter named
Item I give unto Edward Latter my son and to his heirs forever from Lady day next all that my Messuage with ffarm and Lands together with the appurtenants thereunto belonging commonly called or known by the name of Pepper Mill and now in my own occupation and in my son Richard Latter lying and being in the parish of Lamberhurst in the County of Sussex on attompt and with the proviso that he the said Edward Latter my son shall will and duly pay those two several Legacits to Richard latter my son and Mary the wife of John Rummings as shall be hereinafter specified that is to say and I herein give and bequeath unto Richard Latter my son three pounds per annum and to his heirs for ever out of the said Messuage house Mill ffarm and Lands called Pepper Mill by even equall half yearly payment the first payment to begin at Michaelmas next after my decease and if my said son Edward shall not pay any of the said half yearly payment within one and twenty days after they shall become one or payable it shall and may be lawfull and my will and wish is my said son Richard shall renter and enjoy the same till he or his heirs shall be fully satisfyed contented and paid
Itme I give and bequeath out of the said Messuage ffarm and Lands called Pepper Mill unto Mary my daughter the wife of John Rummings four pounds per annum during her life and the life of her said husband and after the decease of my said daughter and the said John Rummings her husband I give and bequeath the said sum of four pounds per annum unto their son Edward Rummings and to his heirs for ever to be paid to them by even and equal half yearly payments and for want of such payments it shall and may be lawfull and my will and mind so that he or they shall reenter and enjoy the same till they shall be fully saitisfied contented and paid the first payment to begin the next … after my decease
Item I give and bequeath unto Mary my loving wife and James my youngest son whom I make Executrix and Executor jointly together all the rest of my Goods and Chattels ready moneys bills bonds debts hay corn household stuff stock within and without whatsoever or wheresoever unto me belonging to be equally divided betwixt them they paying my debts legacies to my said sons William and John and my ffunerall expenses and my will and mind is that if my said loving wife Mary and my son James disagree that all my said Goods and whatever else I have bequeathed to them together shall be fairly appraised and equally divided betwixt then when my said wife shall have and enjoy the same during her natural life and the remainder after her decease to be equally divided amongst all my children
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this thirteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred twenty six. [signature of] Ed Latter. signed sealed published and declared to be my last Will and Testament contained and written upon one sheet of stampt paper revoking all former Wills and Deeds in the presence of the words from Lady day next being first underlined
