George Owen Harman was born in Rotherfield on the 9th December 1938 the eldest son of Bernard and Euphemeia Harman. It is believed that George was married before to a Carol Riddle. He eventually emigrated to New Zealand and what follows are various newspaper reports about George.

Tauranga newspaper report:

Flying is the way to travel for pleasure and for business a young Tauranga man who combines the two is Mr. George Harman. Flying ANZ representatives and himself to business appointments all over the country. George first started flying to make it easy for him to cover areas from Coromandel down to Taihape and out.
Being a family business of 24 years standing established by an uncle. But family or not George was shown no favouritism and was "put through the mill" like anybody else, learning all aspects of the business. Then five years ago he was given the responsibility of starting a branch in Tauranga. He says "I rolled into Tauranga in an ancient De Soto truck with my wife and two cats" he recalled with a laugh. Starting off with a staff of two, himself and an employee, George worked hard and long to get the business to its present size.

Another of George's interests was the Tauranga St. Johns ambulance. He enrolled with the ambulance in June 1967 and in March 1969 was promoted to Corporal. Because of his business interests he resigned early last year. During his service with the ambulance, George spent 101 hours on public duties such as attending sports features.
