John Killick took over the family farmland in Hartfield, just over the border into Sussex, when his father died 1667. In 1674-75 he appears as a churchwarden at Hartfield, and he held various parish offices over the years. About 1684 he rented Chartneys Farm and Carpenters Farm next to Bolebroke, Hartfield, from the Tufton Estate (Countess of Thanet), probably jointly with brother Ralph who left in 1695. Possibly the tenancy ended then, when there was a review and redistribution of the Tufton Estate holdings. It may be Ralph took over these lands later. | |||||
