In 1690 a Nicholas Puxty sold Towngate, then part of the property, to his brother-in-law, Richard Comber. By him and his son the Towngate property, as it had then come to be called, was further increased by the purchase of Shotinghurst, Earlye, and the Dupleck's farm of 96 A.
