Hazelden, Samuel. 63. Born at Isfield 15 April 1816 and baptised there. I am tenant of Barnsden Farm in Buxted parish on the Forest comprising 60 acres and belonging to E. J. R. Streatfield Esq. I hired it at Michaelmas 1869. I am also tenant under him of Streeter's Farm adjoining, comprising about 25 acres. It is in the parish of Maresfield; the parish boundary divides the two farms. I hired it about 2 years after I took Barnsden. I succeeded Henry Can junior at Barnsden and William Trunks (dead) at Streeters. I have turned out my cows and bullocks every year from each farm and occasionally sheep and horses.

I have had litter and turf off the Forest every year for each farm but I have had nothing else. (He has kept some informal farm accounts which are not of any assistance.) I have never paid anything to Lord De La Warr. The Reeve has occasionally stopped my wagon when loaded with litter and has taken down the name but has never objected to my cutting it or otherwise interfered with me.

The Weald is at  Database version 14.05 which has ongoing updates to the 395,000 people; 9,000 places; 613 maps; 3,308 pictures, engravings and photographs; and 248 books loaded in the previous version
